Recycle Your Clothes and Raise Money for Hope for Tomorrow

Recycle Your Clothes and Raise Money for Hope for Tomorrow

We’ve made it even more convenient for you to recycle your unwanted clothes by partnering with Textile Recycling International and Nathan’s Wastesavers, to bring clothes recycling banks into the communities so you can easily deposit any clothes, shoes, towels, bedding, curtains etc., that you no longer want.

These items might normally be placed in your recycling bin at home, but when you use one of our clothes recycling bins, you will be making a conscious effort to recycle whilst making a contribution to Hope for Tomorrow.

When visiting a clothes bank, you can deposit the following:

  • All types of clothing, from coats and jackets to nightwear, underwear and socks. It can be of any size, for adults or children.
  • Shoes, boots, sandals, trainers and pumps, as long as they are in a pair.
  • Various accessories like handbags, hats, scarves, gloves and belts.
  • Household textiles, including bed linen, towels and light curtains.

These items must be clean, dry and bagged.

Unfortunately, you cannot place the following items into the clothes banks:

  • Any items that are soiled, oily or wet, this applies to all textiles including garments, footwear and textiles. As mentioned, these items can contaminate other acceptable donations in the clothes bank, meaning that less can be recycled.
  • Branded uniforms or work wear
  • Duvets & pillows (pillowcases and duvet covers are fine)
  • Rugs & carpets
  • Large theatre-style curtains
  • Haberdashery, scraps of fabric or rolls of material
  • Electrical goods
  • Toys, books, DVDs, CDs, cassettes and games.

What happens to your clothes when they’re recycled?

  1. You take your unwanted, but good quality clothing, paired shoes and textiles to a Hope for Tomorrow clothes bank – they’re big and yellow, you can’t miss them! Please remember to bag your items before you take them to the clothing bank.
  2. Drivers will visit the bank regularly to collect the clothing donations, load them into their vehicles and return to the depot.
  3. Teams in the warehouse repackage the garments, ready for them to be distributed.
  4. The packages of clothes are shipped to a global customer base where there is a demand for high-quality clothing items.
  5. The clothing packages are sorted at a factory, where sorters segregate items according to the type of clothing and its quality.
  6. Every item that can be resold is sent to shops and markets all over the world. They go to destinations here in the UK and across Africa, Asia the Far East and Europe.

Hope for Tomorrow receive £250.00 for every tonne of clothing that is donated to the banks.
