A popular charity golf day is coming to Minchinhampton Golf Club to help bring cancer care closer to people in Gloucestershire.
The 2023 Hope for Tomorrow Golf Day will take place on the Championship Avening Course at Minchinhampton Golf Club on 16 June, following the success of the charity’s first golf day last year.
Hope for Tomorrow is a charity based in Gloucestershire, that builds and provides mobile cancer care units for NHS Trusts across England. The units drive out to patients in their communities rather than patients having to make long and sometimes stressful journeys to hospital for their treatment.
Each fully equipped unit houses four treatment chairs allowing NHS cancer care nurses to treat up to 20 patients a day. The average time a patient saves for each appointment is 2.5 hours, which significantly reduces the impact on their working lives and their families. It also makes them less dependent on others for transport.
Amy Smart, a mother from Stroud who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer says being able to use the unit just five minutes from her home near Stroud Hospital makes a big difference to her life.
“Visiting the Hope for Tomorrow unit for treatment is much more relaxed, you can have a cup of tea and a chat with the nurses – things like that make a big difference when you are tired and undergoing treatment,” said Amy. “Unlike having to go to Gloucester or Cheltenham, there’s no long car drive, parking, and hanging around in waiting rooms. You can be out and back home in a short amount of time and get on with your day. I’m honestly so grateful that Hope for Tomorrow exists to offer such vital support to me and others who are undergoing cancer treatment.”
The Hope for Tomorrow golf day will include tea, coffee and bacon rolls in the morning and a post-golf, two-course meal. Players can enjoy refreshments throughout the day at one of the three drink stations positioned throughout the 18-hole course as well. The event will have a shotgun start, so all players will be able to start and finish around the same time.
There will be prizes for the winners and runners-up, as well as the chance to win some fantastic raffle prizes.
Tina Seymour, Hope for Tomorrow chief executive, said: “Our golf day last year was such a success we decided to bring it back this summer. If you haven’t played at Minchinhampton Golf Club, the Avening Championship course is beautiful, with stunning views across the Cotswold Countryside, so it’s the perfect day out to enjoy with friends and family – or it would also be a great team-building opportunity for local businesses.
“The money raised from the event will go towards the cost of keeping our mobile cancer care units on the road and treating patients locally. Our Gloucestershire unit delivered more than 1,600 treatments last year, saving patients time and money and helping them to maintain their independence and quality of life during their cancer treatment.”
The registration fee for a team of four players is £320. If you would like to register for the event, or you are interested in sponsorship opportunities contact Kelly Caple on email, email@example.com or call 01666 505055.
